After the headline sets end, the basement at Smalls turns into an open jam until 4am: a house band starts things off, then players queue up to sit in. It runs every night with a rotating host (Ben Barnett has the Thursday slot on Oct 1). The best cheap-ish way to hear young NYC jazz players push each other, and a classic late-night stop with friends after dinner in the Village.
